La Cantinetta
About This Spot
Stepping into La Cantinetta, you enter a quietly inviting refuge nestled in the heart of Florence’s Borgo S. Lorenzo. The space hums with a gentle, unhurried rhythm that feels both familiar and intimate—an effortless blend of classic Tuscan charm and the everyday warmth of a local gathering spot. Here, the soft clinking of glasses and the murmur of conversations form a comforting backdrop to the evening’s unfolding moments.
The pace at La Cantinetta never pushes you—meals arrive with thoughtful timing, allowing guests to savor each bite and linger in the company of good friends or beloved companions. It’s the kind of place where the lighting softens as twilight deepens, and a sense of ease settles at the table, inviting casual, genuine connection.
As for the food, it’s woven into the atmosphere like the stories shared over the table. Plates arrive bearing the rich, earthy flavors of the Tuscan countryside and the nearby sea laid gently side by side—whether it’s the unmistakable cut of a Bistecca Fiorentina, fragrant with hints of grill smoke and freshly cracked pepper, or the silky richness of handmade pasta meets the delicate touch of porcini mushrooms. A glass of Chianti—deep and balanced—seems to unfold naturally alongside each course, framing tastes that linger long after the last bite.
The kitchen embraces tradition without pretense, creating dishes that invite you to be present, to notice the details: the tender texture of perfectly cooked steak, the satisfying bite of fresh pasta, the subtle earthiness dripping from black truffle shavings. Even the simplest starters feel like an opening chapter to a much larger story about place and craft.
La Cantinetta’s charm lies in these human moments—the warmth of a knowledgeable recommendation, the easy smile of a server who understands the best pairing or the right portion, the quiet contentment of a shared meal that anchors you in the city’s rhythms. It’s not for flashy gestures or hustle, but for those who seek a grounded, sincere taste of Florence’s heart.

We had the Florentine steak, cooked to medium raw, it was absolutely delicious! Juicy and tender with an amazing flavor. The red wine recommended by the owner was also excellent. Great service and a convenient location. Highly recommend! A wonderful evening!

I had a wonderful evening at La Cantinetta, and it was recommended to me by my relative – totally worth the recommendation. I had the Florentine steak and it was absolutely delicious – juicy and flavorful. The servicewas superb aswell – the waiter was super nice and assisted me in choosing the right dish, making everything even better. Wonderful place for real cuisine and warm welcomes in Florence!

Many will tell you to absolutely avoid restaurants around the main attractions in Florence but if you're after a delicious no-frills meal, this is the one you absolutely shouldn't. We stumbled upon this restaurant as it was the only open one in the area late evening. We had the asparagus and cheese risotto which to a meat-eater like me sounded boring but was actually amazing. The wild boar pappardelle? Equally delicious even without parmesan on top. We went back for lunch another day and tried the ravioli topped with ragú bolognese. The ragú was probably the best one I've ever had or at least in a long time, so now we have to come back again for more whoops lol. Luckily it stays open till midnight which is a big plus as is the service with a smile! Here's a video sure to make you drool ... Buon appetito!

The cheese and jam appetizer is a MUST! It was so delicious. We enjoyed everything we had, but that cheese dish is something special

Stopped in here to try the Florentine special boar pasta and my wife also tried the truffle pasta. Both were good but required us to “dress” them with the seasonings and oil on the table. Another table beside us ordered the famous steak which came undercooked and was eventually sent back. Overall a good experience for us but be warned it’s not for everyone.

The food here is absolutely delicious, and the staff couldn't be nicer. We received excellent wine recommendations from a lady on the team, who asked thoughtful questions to ensure we had the best experience possible. We enjoyed it so much that we came back two days in a row, first for dinner and then for lunch. Highly recommend!

Go here if you want real italian food. No tourist trap. Food service from the signore was kind and swift. We ordered a steak, spaghetti alle vongole, and lemon marinated octopus salad. Everything was perfect. Also wifi available.

The seafood pasta was absolutely delicious—I loved it! The fish was good too, but it didn’t quite compare to how amazing the pasta was.
